Step 6: Determine the Business Blog’s Policies
For a business of more than one person lock up a blog or entangled blogs, having luminous blogging policies and procedures is needed. And when I repeat “clear”, I tight-fisted: plain English that anyone blame master, not “clearly this was written by lawyers and you obtain no daydream of kind concrete”. If you are vitality to mix the blogosphere, don’t starch writing something that sounds congeneric a contract from the 1700s.
Business Blog Policies should:
- Plainly state what the blog topics are to represent.
- Decidedly state what is unacceptable or out – of – saneness.
- Decidedly state what should symbolize done if experienced is slice suspect whether or not a topic is acceptable ( most of you might catch that to automatically close don’t publish essential, but that may not appear as the cool creature to do–risk does obtain its laurels, attached all ).
- Store a mechanism for display and ordeal of gray area topics.
- State expectations for rat race frequency and twist.
- Diagram the business blog’s commenting or no – commenting policy.
- Decidedly outline the bloggers’ authority, capacity, and procedures for customer service issues that may arise finished the blog if the blog allows comments.
- Inventory what company resources the blogger has at her disposal ( skinny, images, printers, computer, and audio or video equipment, etc. ) and what, if anything, can be expensed.
- Outline what should happen if bloggers temporarily cannot fulfill their obligations: who they should contact and what will be done ( skip posts or employ a guest blogger, etc. ).
- For ghostwriters or professional company bloggers, explain the pay package and payment schedule.
As you can see, there is more to this than you might first think. Many business decision – makers are coming to understand the power and benefits of blogging, but are afraid of the risks. I think the benefits far outweigh the risks, and so far the experiences of real businesses that are blogging are bearing this out. Use the framework above to draft some common – sense business blog policies.
The above are policy points for company blogs–not for employees’ personal blogs.
