Who will wins the battle?

There is a discussion about the difference between SEO gamers and true SEO’s.

I described it as “SEO Ninjas” and “SEO Samurai.”

The ninjas are sometimes shady, hide in shadows, and play tricks. While the samurai think about honor, class, and quality.

The SEO Ninjas are constantly worried about algorithm changes, tools, and tricks. When things like the panda update or the new freshness update happen they usually get screwed. That’s what happens when you only think about the “tomorrow game” of looking at how to game the Google algorithm. Instead the samurai pays attention to the long term game of understanding what Google wants.

I have been practicing the same things in SEO for almost 3 years now. Very little has changed in the day to day tasks I practice for my SEO results. I don’t pay attention to the updates, I pay attention to what Google wants.

Fresh, human written, entertaining, useful, and educational content that is good enough to make people want to share it with their friends. That’s what Google wants to display.

When you help Google do their job they help you do yours by ranking you higher.

SEO Ninjas do stuff like linkwheels and link pyramids or create fake social profiles. Samurai just create content that people would proudly link to from their sites. Content that is helpful, relevent, and a pleasure to read.

Instead of robotic like submissions, the samurai just politely asks key influencers who have similar content if they’d be willing to link to their article.

The SEO ninja does get results. They do well in the search engines, sometimes even better than the samurai. Until there is an update! Then the samurai hops right back to the top again like before.

If you want to get off of the SEO treadmill of constantly keeping up with the Google updates, then start learning to be like the samurai instead of the ninja. It’s more work on the front end but much easier and productive in the long run. But then again I just said to take the hard route instead of the easy route. Not a whole lot of people understand that hard gains today for easy gains tomorrow is a better way of life.

How Many Links Does A Website Need To Rank Well?

This all depends on the competition, if you find that the top 10 results in Google let’s say are ranked for the keywords “make money online” and if you study their backlink count, some are ranked higher then others with fewer backlinks and the reason is those fewer backlinks they have are dofollow, high page rank backlinks.

But their competitors have more backlinks and are ranked below them because they have low page rank backlinks and are have more nofollow links then them. So the trick is less is more particularly if you are getting dofollow and high pagerank backlinks there is no need to go out and get thousands of links if you know what you are doing.

I hope this very important tip steers you in the right direction.

This has to do with 2 things, first thing is your competitors may have less outgoing backlinks (OBL) so they are giving out less juice to other sites then you are and secondly this has to do with the fact that they are using their anchor text in their backlinks for the keywords they are ranking for more then you are.
